First show December 2018 at the Round Tower Gallery

The two-storey Round Tower is a well-used and much-loved multi-disciplinary exhibition space for hire, showing a variety of art and craft in a wide range of shows – solo, group, craft, fine art, photography and sculpture. The historic Round Tower will be the home of the Black Swan Guild.
More than 20,000 visitors per year visit the centre and the work of over 400 artists is shown in a variety of solo and collaborative exhibitions and competitions. Regionally, Black Swan Arts is held in high regard and is considered an important art centre in the south-west.

Forming the Black Swan Guild

The Black Swan Guild is being established as part of our commitment to nurture and showcase high quality work from the widest possible range of artists and craftspeople. The overriding criterion for selection as a member of the Guild will be the quality of the work you produce. Quality will take precedence over other factors such as qualifications, experience, status and geographic location.

The Guild will be an association of makers, open to practitioners of every type of art and craft. During its first year of operation the Guild will establish itself as a self-managing, self-governing and self-selecting organisation, operating under the banner of Black Swan Arts. Members of the Guild will be the key contributors to its constitution, aims and objectives and its working practices, in partnership with the trustees of Black Swan Arts.

How to apply

To become a founder member of the Black Swan Guild your application will be assessed by a group of highly respected and successful professional artists and craftspeople, skilled in a wide range of media. Initially, this will be based on an online application, with short-listed applicants being invited to present selected examples of their work.

Exhibiting with the Guild and other opportunities

Each year the Guild will be guaranteed a minimum of 16 weeks of exhibition time in the Round Tower Gallery, divided into four, four-week blocks, spread out through the year. One of these blocks of time will always fall during the prestigious (and potentially lucrative) month of December.

As part of the Black Swan Arts organisation, the Guild will enjoy all the benefits of being part of a significant regional arts venue. The Black Swan Arts website will have pages dedicated to the Guild, including up-to-date listings, artists’ profiles and contact details. There will be opportunities for the Guild to organise demonstrations, courses, workshops and artist’s talks using the Round Tower or other areas of the Black Swan building, as appropriate.

Annual membership fees

Members of the Guild will contribute an annual (and non-refundable) membership fee of £120, payable in advance.
