Black Swan Arts, Frome, launches its phenomenal show of 1000 ‘secret’ artworks on Saturday 18 June 2016.
Postcard-sized artworks have been donated by famous names such as actor and musician Rhys Ifans, fashion designer Pearl Lowe, Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey, Oscar-winning animator Daniel Greaves, singer-songwriter Cara Dillon, musician and DJ Huey Morgan.
Celebrated artists including Anna Gillespie, Janette Kerr PRWA, David Brooke, Jeremy Gardiner, David Parfitt, Silvia Dimitrova, Peter Randall-Page and Fabian Peake, as well as emerging and well-established artists and makers from the UK and worldwide, have all contributed to this major fundraising exhibition.
The postcards are all exhibited anonymously (signatures will appear on the back of the work) alongside a list of the contributors and available to purchase at £30 – the artists’ names will be revealed at a collection day party on Tuesday 28 June (between 4 and 8pm). Don’t expect the famous artists to be highly visible in the gallery they have been carefully placed so that each artist gets a look in.
The exhibition offers everyone the chance to buy an original artwork at a bargain price, while also helping to support the vibrant contemporary arts centre to raise £30,000 towards restoring the historic Round Tower. Any postcards unsold during the exhibition will be available for sale throughout 2016 at the centre and through a dedicated website.
The show is part of Black Swan Arts’ 30th anniversary celebrations which include a series of creative events throughout 2016 such as the ‘Secret Swans’ treasure trail during the Frome Festival, an Art Car Boot Sale on 10 July and ‘30 Plinths’ exhibition in December. Centre manager Emma Warren says: ‘Our plans to celebrate Black Swan Arts’ 30th anniversary will make 2016 a year to remember.’
Whether you’re an artist or not, this hub of creativity in the centre of Frome should be visited and celebrated by you this year!
